Assessment and Achivement
Our pupils’ individual journeys are not defined by age, but by need and achievement based on their EHCP and curriculum learning outcomes, that are broken into small steps. Each subject sequential learning pathway covers the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary for our pupils to make the best progress possible in their learning. Individual learning needs such as readiness to learn, are further met through bespoke intervention programmes for enhanced personalisation. The personalised approach to the curriculum ensures we can meet the needs of all our pupils.
At The Piper Centre we assess our pupils against sequtial learning pathways for the following areas:
- Communication
- Thinking and Learning
- Physical Development, Health and Wellbeing
- Personal Development
The assessments are used to identifiy gaps in knowledge, skills and understanding and plan for next steps.
Teachers assess pupils to ensure that they are making appropriate individual progression from their starting points and to complete statutory returns. Assessment is ongoing all year round and teachers undertake pupil progress meetings three times a year where individual needs are discussed. Pupil progress is monitored and evaluated by the assessment lead at least twice each academic year.
All pupil EHCP targets are reviewed yearly and small steps are set towards these, three times a year. The progress towards these individual targets is assessed as being acheived, partially achieved or not achieved and additional support will be put in place where needed through the pupil progress meeting cycle.
Three times a year, a snapshot of pupils working within the engagement model guidelines is taken to support next steps in the 5 levels of engagement. This is a stautory assessment for the cohort of pupils in Key Stage 1 and 2 who are working below the standard of national curriculum assessments and not engaged in subject-specific study.
Performance Tables
All pupils at The Piper Centre have learning disabilities and are exempt from statutory tests.
Cohorts are too small for data to be published on the school’s website as pupils could be easily identified.
Swimming
Swimming and water safety is a statutory element of the national curriculum for physical education for pupils of Primary School age.
At The Piper Centre we have access to The Chamwell Centre to access swimming.
For academic year 2021-2022 we had zero Year 6 pupils who did not meet the statutory requirements for swimming at the end of Key Stage 2.
